Three roles. One conference. Pick yours.

Three roles. One conference. Pick yours.

Every MUN conference runs on three groups of people doing very different jobs. Before you read anything else, identify which one you are.

A Note on Terminology

MUN uses specific terms consistently. A few that matter:

  • A Position Statement is the document delegates write before the conference. Some MUN circuits call this a Position Paper. MUN uses Statement.
  • A Presiding Officer is the student who chairs a committee. Sometimes called a Chair or Director at other conferences. MUN uses Presiding Officer.
  • The Dais is the team running the committee — Presiding Officer and supporting staff. The word also refers to the raised platform they sit on.
  • A Sponsor in MUN terminology is the adult advisor who accompanies a school delegation. Note that Sponsor also has a separate meaning in committee — a Sponsor of a working paper is a delegate who helped write it. Context will make clear which is meant.

This guide reflects MUN standards and procedures. For official documents — including the Rules of Procedure, Position Statement templates, Presiding Officer Guidelines, and the Judge's Assessment Rubric — visit the MUN Resources page.
